Mumbai’s
Animal Angels Dogs Featured in New Book
Maharashtra, India—October 25, 2008 – Therapy dogs Kutty
and Goldie increased their international fame by having their
pet partnership with Mrs. Manil Vishal Kavishwar and Animal Angels Foundation
featured in a new book, Angel
Dogs with a Mission: Divine Messengers in Service to All Life by
Minneapolis, Minnesota authors Allen and Linda Anderson (New World Library,
October 1, 2008). The book is a collection of twenty true stories about dogs
who found their purpose in life and gave without expecting a return.
Kutty and Mrs. Kavishwar came to the Andersons’ attention when
they were nominated and subsequently won the Delta Society’s
Beyond Limits award, which honors the very best in the field of Human-Animal
bond. The team’s outstanding work in the field of animal-assisted therapy
caused them to be chosen from among more than 10,000 international entries who
visit more than 3000 facilities with their animals. Mrs. Kavishwar and Kutty
are the first Pet Partners to be registered from India with Delta Society and
the first Indian team to win the international award in this field.
Mrs.
Kavishwar’s story for the book centers around the work that Kutty does at TMC's
Dharmaveer Anand Dighe Jidda School, a school for the mentally challenged with
associated disabilities in Vasant Vihar, Thane. Jidd's Pawsitive Animal therapy
program was the first Animal Assisted Therapy program and research study for
the mentally retarded in India and also the country’s first documented research
on Animal Therapy. Principle Mrs Shyamashree Bhosle gave full support and
co-operation for this project. Today, Kutty, a five-year-old golden
Labrador, is a pet of the Bhosle family. Kutty comes to the school with the
principle everyday. She stays there during school hours, stands with the
children for prayers, plays with them, and assists them as an Animal Angels
therapy dog. Three-year-old golden retriever Goldie’s
part of Mrs. Kavishwar’s published story follows her from Animal Angels Foundation
therapy dog for an autistic boy to joining Kutty and the children at Anand
Dighe Jidd Special School to offering emotional support for victims of the July
11 Mumbai train blast.
Allen and Linda Anderson are founders of the Angel Animals Network
(www.angelanimals.net), inspirational speakers, clergy members, and authors of
the award-winning Rescued: Saving Animals from Disaster as well as nine
other books in the popular Angel Animals series. Marc Bekoff, PhD, professor
emeritus of ecology and evolutionary biology at the University of Colorado,
Boulder, wrote the book’s foreword. Dr. Bekoff writes, “Angel Dogs with a
Mission will change your life and the lives of those with whom you share it.”
Dog lovers will be inspired and entertained by the dramatic
human-and-dog journeys in Angel Dogs with a Mission. The amazing stories
provide laughter, proof that miracles are possible, and tears -- the good kind.
Amelia Kinkade, author of Straight from the Horses Mouth, says, “This book is a
tribute to the fact that many of our most effective doctors, nurses,
therapists, police officers, emotional counselors, rescue workers, and
spiritual teachers have four legs instead of two.”
