Barrington Author Featured in New Dog Book
Minneapolis, Minnesota, November 1, 2008
– Barrington’s Sarah Atlas and Anna, a German shepherd, were one of the first search
and rescue teams to deploy to Ground Zero after the tragic events of September
11. Shortly afterwards, Anna died from damaged lungs and had her obituary in
USA Today. Sarah says, “Anna’s willingness to bring closure and comfort to
rescue workers and victims’ families became the inspiration for me to start an
assistance program for volunteer search and rescue dog handlers.” (www.sardogfoundation.org) The
story of how Atlas, a member of the New Jersey Task Force One Urban Search and
Rescue Team, partnered with this highly perceptive dog to offer heroic service
is featured in a new book, Angel Dogs with a Mission: Divine Messengers in
Service to All Life by authors, Allen and Linda Anderson (New World
Library, October 1, 2008). The book is a collection of twenty true stories
about dogs who found their purpose in life and gave without expecting a return.
Today,
Atlas shares her life in Barrington with Tango; her other canine partner,
Kaylee, a human-remains recovery dog; and Szara, a pet-therapy dog,.
Allen
and Linda Anderson are founders of the Angel Animals Network
(www.angelanimals.net), inspirational speakers, clergy members, and authors of
the award-winning Rescued: Saving Animals from Disaster as well as nine
other books in the popular Angel Animals series. Marc Bekoff, PhD, professor
emeritus of ecology and evolutionary biology at the University of Colorado,
Boulder, wrote in the foreword for Angel Dogs with a Mission: “This book will
change your life and the lives of those with whom you share it.”
As
with the hugely popular Marley & Me, dog lovers will be inspired and
entertained by the dramatic human-and-dog journeys in this new book. The
amazing stories provide laughter, proof that miracles are possible, and tears
-- the good kind.
Amelia
Kinkade, author of Straight from the Horses Mouth, says, “This book is a
tribute to the fact that many of our most effective doctors, nurses,
therapists, police officers, emotional counselors, rescue workers, and
spiritual teachers have four legs instead of two.”
