Fernie, British Columbia Author Featured in New Dog Book
Minneapolis, Minnesota, November 4, 2008
– Fernie’s Robin Siggers, a member of and trained by the Canadian Avalanche
Rescue Dog Association (CARDA) went through the arduous process of training the
Lab-collie mix puppy, Keno, to be an avalanche search dog. At Fernie Alpine Ski
Resort, a lift operator was buried by an avalanche in a closed-off mountain
area, unable to survive for more than thirty minutes. Keno air-scented, dug in
the snow, and found the man. Siggers says, “Keno made the first live find by an
avalanche dog in Canada.” The dramatic story of how Siggers and Keno teamed up
to save lives is featured in a new book, Angel Dogs
with a Mission: Divine Messengers in Service to All Life by authors, Allen
and Linda Anderson (New World Library, October 1, 2008). The book is a
collection of twenty true stories about dogs who found their purpose in life
and gave without expecting a return.
Siggers is
the mountain operations manager at Fernie Alpine Resort (www.skifernie.com) in the Lizard Range of
the Canadian Rocky Mountains. He served as a senior ski patroller and handler
in the Avalanche Rescue Dog Program with Keno. He encourages donating money and
wollen shirts and blankets to CARDA (www.carda.bc.ca).
Allen and
Linda Anderson are founders of the Angel Animals Network
(www.angelanimals.net), inspirational speakers, clergy members, and authors of
the award-winning Rescued: Saving Animals from Disaster as well as nine
other books in the popular Angel Animals series.
Marc
Bekoff, PhD, professor emeritus of ecology and evolutionary biology at the
University of Colorado, Boulder, wrote in the foreword for Angel Dogs with a
Mission: “This book will change your life and the lives of those with whom you
share it.”
As
with the hugely popular Marley & Me, dog lovers will be inspired and
entertained by the dramatic human-and-dog journeys in this new book. The
amazing stories provide laughter, proof that miracles are possible, and tears
-- the good kind.
Amelia
Kinkade, author of Straight from the Horses Mouth, says, “This book is a
tribute to the fact that many of our most effective doctors, nurses,
therapists, police officers, emotional counselors, rescue workers, and
spiritual teachers have four legs instead of two.”
