Stillwater Author Featured in New Dog Book
Minneapolis, Minnesota, November 4, 2008
– Stillwater’s Lisa LaVerdiere has created the Renaissance Project and formed a
partnership with Home for Life, a sanctuary for disabled and elderly dogs, and
Boys Totem Town, a highly structured and nurturing St. Paul juvenile
corrections facility. LaVerdiere says, “Now, at-risk teenage boys train rescued
dogs for service to the community.” The inspiring story of how an abused dog
named Emily teamed up with a troubled teen to the benefit of both is
featured in a new book, Angel Dogs with a Mission: Divine Messengers in
Service to All Life by authors, Allen and Linda Anderson (New World
Library, October 1, 2008). The book is a collection of twenty true stories
about dogs who found their purpose in life and gave without expecting a return.
LaVerdiere
founded Home for Life sanctuary in 1997 as a new kind of long-term sheltering
to provide loving, nurturing, lifetime care for special-needs animals. She is
executive director and has an office in Stillwater. The sanctuary is in Star
Prairie, Wisconsin, on forty acres of undeveloped farmland. Home for Life’s
community-outreach programs allow their dogs and cats to participate in the Pet
Peace Corps, which brings certified therapy dogs to nursing homes, hospitals,
and women’s domestic-violence shelters, and the Peach Creatures program in
cooperation with the Tubman Family Alliance of the Twin Cities, among other
programs (www.homeforlife.org)
Allen
and Linda Anderson are founders of the Angel Animals Network
(www.angelanimals.net), inspirational speakers, clergy members, and authors of
the award-winning Rescued: Saving Animals from Disaster as well as nine
other books in the popular Angel Animals series.
Marc
Bekoff, PhD, professor emeritus of ecology and evolutionary biology at the
University of Colorado, Boulder, wrote in the foreword for Angel Dogs with a
Mission: “This book will change your life and the lives of those with whom you
share it.”
As
with the hugely popular Marley & Me, dog lovers will be inspired and
entertained by the dramatic human-and-dog journeys in this new book. The
amazing stories provide laughter, proof that miracles are possible, and tears
-- the good kind.
Amelia
Kinkade, author of Straight from the Horses Mouth, says, “This book is a
tribute to the fact that many of our most effective doctors, nurses,
therapists, police officers, emotional counselors, rescue workers, and
spiritual teachers have four legs instead of two.”
