Boston
Hero Dog Featured in New Book
Minneapolis,
Minnesota, September 22, 2008 – Boston’s Dr. Karla Rose and her dog, Tuffy, a
King Charles Cavalier, serve as a certified K-9 grief counseling team. Dr.
Rose, a grief and trauma specialist, says, “After a disaster or tragedy, as
people share words and tears with Tuffy and me, they seek comfort by snuggling
Tuffy ever so tenderly. He provides a nonthreatening link, allowing me the
opportunity to offer care and reassurance.” Dr. Rose and Tuffy are team members
of National Animal Assisted Crisis Response, founded by Cindy Ehlers, who was
interviewed by reporter Kevin Tibbles this summer on NBC’s Today Show. The
story of how Dr. Rose and Tuffy responded after the horrible days following the
April 16, 2007 Virginia Tech shootings is featured in a new book, Angel Dogs
with a Mission: Divine Messengers in Service to All Life by authors, Allen
and Linda Anderson (New World Library, October 1, 2008). The book is a
collection of twenty true stories about dogs who found their purpose in life
and gave without expecting a return.
Dr.
Rose and Tuffy are members of and have trained extensively with the
International Criticial Incident Stress Foundation. Tuffy has received numerous
accolades in only three years of service, including being nominated for the
Delta Society’s Beyond Limits awards. He earned an honorary high-school diploma
from the Lincoln Sudbury Regional High School for his service. The pair
extensively lectures and provides demonstrations on “Traumatic Stress Intervention”
and the use of canines in prevention of post-traumatic stress disorder
(www.pawsitive-recovery.com)
Allen
and Linda Anderson are founders of the Angel Animals Network
(www.angelanimals.net), inspirational speakers, clergy members, and authors of the
award-winning Rescued: Saving Animals from Disaster as well as nine
other books in the popular Angel Animals series. Marc Bekoff, PhD, professor
emeritus of ecology and evolutionary biology at the University of Colorado,
Boulder, wrote the book’s foreword. Dr. Bekoff writes, “Angel Dogs with a
Mission will change your life and the lives of those with whom you share it.”
As
with the hugely popular Marley & Me, dog lovers will be inspired and
entertained by the dramatic human-and-dog journeys in this new book. The
amazing stories provide laughter, proof that miracles are possible, and tears
-- the good kind. Amelia Kinkade, author of Straight from the Horses Mouth,
says, “This book is a tribute to the fact that many of our most effective
doctors, nurses, therapists, police officers, emotional counselors, rescue
workers, and spiritual teachers have four legs instead of two.”
