Smithfield, Kentucky Author Featured in New Dog Book
Minneapolis,
Minnesota, November 1, 2008 – Smithfield’s Deb Richeson and Zoom, her
Welsh Corgi, made national news when the dog helped to raise reading test
scores in their rural Kentucky school. Richeson says, “Zoom serves as the
children’s canine listener while they read to him and he offers teachers doggie
stress relief.” The story of how this former Fortune 500 company employee
teamed up with a big-hearted dog to transform the school is featured in a new
book, Angel Dogs with a Mission: Divine Messengers in Service to All Life
by authors, Allen and Linda Anderson (New World Library, October 1, 2008). The
book is a collection of twenty true stories about dogs who found their purpose
in life and gave without expecting a return.
Richeson,
born in Hiroshima, Japan, lives with her husband Dave and grandson Caley in a
town where everyone knows and loves Zoom. She delights in being recognized at
local stores as students proudly proclaim, “I’m a Zoom Kid.”
Allen
and Linda Anderson are founders of the Angel Animals Network
(www.angelanimals.net), inspirational speakers, clergy members, and authors of
the award-winning Rescued: Saving Animals from Disaster as well as nine
other books in the popular Angel Animals series. Marc Bekoff, PhD, professor
emeritus of ecology and evolutionary biology at the University of Colorado,
Boulder, wrote in the foreword for Angel Dogs with a Mission: “This book will
change your life and the lives of those with whom you share it.”
As
with the hugely popular Marley & Me, dog lovers will be inspired and
entertained by the dramatic human-and-dog journeys in this new book. The
amazing stories provide laughter, proof that miracles are possible, and tears
-- the good kind.
Amelia
Kinkade, author of Straight from the Horses Mouth, says, “This book is a
tribute to the fact that many of our most effective doctors, nurses,
therapists, police officers, emotional counselors, rescue workers, and
spiritual teachers have four legs instead of two.”
